About Agastache

Agastache are herbaceous perennials with modestly scented foliage and small yet endless tubular flowers that form into solid spears throughout the summer and early autumn. They are best suited to flower beds and borders within cottage, informal or wildlife garden settings where they will attract an abundance of bees and butterflies. You should expect Agastache to grow to an approximate height of 40cm (16”) and spread of 60cm (24”).

How to plant Agastache

Agastache are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of sand, chalk and loam within an acidic, alkaline and neutral PH balance. Ensure that your soil has excellent drainage particularly in the winter months as Agastache can suffer in the cold and wet weather. You may wish to amend the planting area with plenty of organic matter, mixing thoroughly to improve the overall drainage. Agastache are drought tolerant and best positioned in an area that receives full sun.

How to care for Agastache

Agastache can produce a better stock of flowers when they are initially grown indoors from late April with transferal to beds and borders during early summer. Ensure that your plants have plenty of water whilst they are still young and progressing, reducing the volume of water required as they mature.

How to propagate Agastache

It is possible to propagate Agastache by seed or division during the spring. Alternatively, you may wish to root semi-ripe cuttings in the late summer and during winter if kept under cover in a greenhouse or similar environment.
