Dig a hole that is deep enough to cover your bare roots without bending or snapping their form and space your plants 30-45cm (12-18in) apart. Settle the soil in place, covering your bare roots entirely, whilst watering them thoroughly and deeply.
Water regularly, ensuring the soil is kept moist but not waterlogged. Increase watering during periods of drought. Give the plant a light feed in spring to encourage healthy growth. Cut down to ground level after the first frosts to encourage healthy re-growth for the following season.
