Acnistus are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun. In the UK, they are perfect for conservatories, or in a large pot on a patio where they can be moved to a frost-free area in winter as they are not hardy.

In the UK, Acnistus will need to planted in a pot, either in a conservatory or outside such as on a patio. Use a well-draining soil.
If growing outside in a pot, it will need to be taken into a frost-free area when the temperatures drop. Keep watered but be careful not to overwater. RHS pruning group 9- prune lightly in mid to late spring, removing unsightly shoots as required. Pruning will encourage further growth and improved flower production.
It is possible to propagate Acnistus by seed in spring sown at 15°C, by softwood cuttings in late spring, or by semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
