Where to plant Abelia

Abelia are best planted in a moist but well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun as this is where the flowers will grow with profusion and density. They are well suited to low maintenance wall side borders and courtyard gardens.

Choose a site that will accommodate the mature size of the plant and dig a hole that is wide and deep enough for the root ball. Water thoroughly and deeply once settled into place.

How to care for Abelia

Protect from hard, prolonged frosts by covering with fleece from late autumn. This fleece can then be removed during spring. Provide the plant with a mulch in autumn. To control the shape of the Abelia, you may wish to trim the plant once it has flowered by removing dead or damaged wood. This will help maintain a healthy appearance and will encourage further growth for the following season.
