How do my plants arrive?

Our plants are supplied as young plants, potted plants, bare roots, bulbs or corms. This will be specified in both the code and product description as to the form in which your plants arrive with you.

Young plants are grown in the ideal plug size to provide the best conditions required during the first stage of each plant's development. Young plants usually measure between 8-15cm (3-6") from root base to stem tip, although they are often larger. In ideal conditions, they may be planted directly into the ground, however, we recommend they are potted on for 3-4 weeks to develop a strong root system prior to planting out.

Potted plants arrive in 5cm, 7cm and 9cm containers and are the next stage of development from young plants. Potted plants are perfect for those who like instant gardening where they can be planted straight out after arrive or grown on in pots a little while longer.

Bare roots may look a little ugly on arrival but they are sure to grow into something spectacular. Our bare roots are at least one year old and have been harvested from the field during dormancy. We store them in appropriate conditions until you are ready to receive them. You may plant bare roots on arrival where they will continue to grow to optimum effect.

Bulbs and corms arrive in various sizes dependent on variety. This does not bare any resemblance to their eventual size. Bulbs and corms will store well in suitable conditions for up to a fortnight or they can be planted out straight away.

Interpreting the codes:

  • Codes that start with 'YP' are young plants.
  • Codes that start with 'PT' are potted plants.
  • Codes that start with 'BR' are bare roots.
  • Codes that start with 'BU' are bulbs.
  • Codes that start with 'CO' are corms.

Are you open to the public?

Unfortunately, due to our location, we are unable to accept visitors at this current time. However, we can hold orders in our main office for customers who wish to collect their purchases.

Can my order be tracked?

You are able to track the status of your order using the online order tracker or by logging into your account and looking at the status next to each item in order details. Unfortunately at this current time, once items have left the nursery we are unable to track the location of your parcel.

Can I return an item?

We do offer a strict No Quibble Guarantee policy where if for any reason you are not delighted with your purchase, we are always happy to replace or refund the cost of your plants. However if you would rather send your plants back to us, please feel free to do so telling us why we have not delivered the high quality service that you should expect. What are customer service opening hours?

Our internal customer care team take orders and answer queries from Monday-Sunday,inclusive of bank holidays from 9am-5pm.

Orders can be taken anytime from between 8am-8pm from Monday-Friday and 9am-5pm on a Sunday from our external team (excludes Christmas Day).

We promise to exchange the item or return the price you paid for the item in full. This is in addition to your statutory rights.

Hayloft Plants will not agree to refunding the costs of returning the parcel to us.
