Woodwardia is a genus of ferns within the Blechnaceae family and are native to the Northern Hemisphere. Woodwardia is named after Thomas Jenkinson Woodward, an English botanist. They are more commonly known as chain ferns.
Woodwardia can be either evergreen or deciduous large ferns with chain-like lines spores on the underside of their fronds. They are well-suited to being planted in borders, beds and containers.
