History and Origin:

Tecophilaea is a genus of cormous plants within the Tecophilaeaceae family, native to southern South America. The genus name was given in honour of Tecophila Billotti, a renowned botanical artist and daughter of the Italian botanist Luigi Aloysius Colla of Turin, who founded this plant in 1836.

Tecophilaea are cormous, herbaceous perennial plants with slender sword-shaped foliage and pipe–shaped flowers that glow with vibrant blue or violet shades during spring. Most varieties have stunning white throats to contrast with bold coloured blooms, often releasing heavenly fragrance.
