Semiarundinaria

History and Origin:

Semiarundinaria is a genus of East Asian bamboo of the grass family that originates from subtropical woodlands of China and Japan. The name Semiarundinaria comes from the Latin semi meaning 'half' and arundo maeaning 'reed'. In the past, bamboo has been used in China to make a plethora of every day items such as chopsticks, arrows, writing tablets and firewood, just to name a few.

About:

Semiarundinaria are tall and upright bamboos that are fast growers and are generally rhizomatous. They can be evergreen, semi-deciduous or deciduous depending on the variety. Smooth canes grow upwards with lance-shaped leaves at each node. Perfecly suited for using as architectural low-maintenance hedging or screen plants and can be grown in containers too.
