Schizostylis is a genus of flowering plants within the Iridaceae family, native to South Africa. Within this region, it is most commonly referred to as the Scarlet River Lily or the Kaffir Lily. The name Schizostylis coccinea was named by Backhouse and Harvey in 1864. The name Schizostylis means divided columns or styles as there are three prominent styles and stamens. It is closely related to Hesperantha which is also native to South Africa.
Schizostylis coccinea are semi-evergreen rhizomatous perennials. They fashion slender, sword-shaped leaves and star-like blooms that flourish from late summer through to late autumn.
