Scaevola

History and Origin:

Scaevola is a genus of plants within the Goodeniaceae family, native to Australia. They are commonly referred to as ‘Fan flowers’, ‘Half flowers’ or ‘Naupaka’. In Latin, the word Scaevola means ‘Little Hand’. There are many ancient legends surrounding this plant. In one tale, a woman tears the flower in half during an argument with her lover. The Gods, in anger, turned all Scaevola plants into half flowers. The two lovers were separated and the male was destined to search for another whole flower.

About:

Scaevola are sun-loving annuals with gorgeous clusters of dark green foliage and fan-shaped blooms. They are native to Australia and therefore heat tolerant. They are best suited in window boxes, hanging baskets or containers. You should expect to see Scaevola grow to an approximate height of 40cm (16”) and a spread of 60cm (24”).
