Paulownia is a genus of plants within the Scropulariaceae family, native to southeastern China. It has been documented as far back to 200 AD in Japan. If a daughter was born into a Japanese family, they would plant a Paulownia tree for when she later marries. In such an event, the tree would be cut down and utilized for a dowry chest, furniture and other items. In China, Paulownia has been grown for centuries where itís wood was used in the construction of furniture, toys and instruments, to name but a few.
Paulownias are deciduous trees with large, oval-shaped leaves and stately stems of foxglove-like flowers, that blossom profusely during the spring.
