Osmanthus is a genus within the Oleaceae family, native to eastern Asia. They are commonly referred to as the ‘tea olive’ plant. The genus name derives from the Greek word meaning ‘osma’ meaning fragrant and ‘anthos’, meaning flower. There is a long history of these plants used as herbal medicines.
Osmanthus are evergreen shrubs or small trees with glossy, leathery leaves and often scented tubular yellow, orange or white flowers of four lobes, showcasing a divine display of flower and foliage colour throughout spring although some varieties will bloom throughout autumn and winter.
