Millettia is a genus of plants within the Fabaceae family, native to tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. It was first referenced in 1834 by Scottish botanists Robert Wight and George Arnott Walker-Arnott.
Dressed in eight-inch-long Wisteria-like panicles, a mature specimen can be a pure delight to witness in flower from August to December. Blooms are equally scented but far more eye-catching. Dark purple and maroon flowers fashion vibrant yellow centres. Millettia are suited to flower beds, borders and containers within a cottage or tropical garden setting. You should expect to see Millettia grow to an approximate height and spread of 3m (10’).
