Meconopsis is a genus of approximately 45 species within the Papaveraceae family, native to south-central Asia. It was first mentioned by Louis Viguier, a French botanist in 1814. The genus name is derived from the Greek word ‘mekon’ meaning poppy and ‘opsis’, meaning alike.
Meconopsis are biennials, annuals, evergreen or herbaceous perennial plants that are more commonly known as Himalayan Poppies. They are renowned for their luxurious rosettes of paper-like petals and fine, hairy foliage. They are a popular addition to most garden styles and look perfect when planted beneath roses or shrubs.
