Lespedeza

History and Origin:

Lespedeza is a genus within the Fabaceae family, native to Japan and China. They are commonly referred to as ‘bush clovers’. The genus name is supposedly in honour of Vicente Manuel de Céspedes (1784-1790) the governor of East Florida at the time although his name was misspelt as Lespedez in an 1802 publication.

About:

Lespedeza are annual, perennial or deciduous sub-shrubs, native to Japan and China. Neat and dense foliage sit beneath bundles of delicate pea-shaped blooms that form an elegant yet subtle arch. Some varieties of Lespedeza are incredibly fragrant and will provide optimum colour and scent during the autumn months.
