Imperata are a genus of plants within the Poaceae family. The genus is named after Ferrante Imperato and apothecarist during the late 16th and early 17th century.
Imperata are deciduous perennial grasses, with flat, upright spears that are brightly coloured in shades of red, orange and green with often small silvery flowers that appear during late summer.
