Holodiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the Rosaceae family, native to the Americas.
Holodiscus are a multi-stemmed shrub. The stems are slender but dense. Traditionally, the wood from these shrubs were used by coastal tribes in the Americas for arrows and digging tools, sewing and knitting needles, and even as joining pins for construction. Mature stems and branches have an attractive reddish peeling bark. Foliage is roughly toothed turning from green to yellow to red in autumn. The flowers are a frothy cascade of many tiny, fragrant, five-petal blossoms, starting out as white, fading to cream and finally to brown as they age. You should expect to see Holodiscus grow to an approximate height and spread of 3m (9’).
