Gillenia are a genus of plants within the Rosaceae family, native to eastern North America. They are commonly known as ‘Bowman’s Root’, ‘Indian-physic’ and ‘American ipecac’.
Gillenia are rhizomatous perennial plants with attractive palmately divided foliage, long dark slender stems and clusters of gorgeous star-shaped flowers. Gillenia are best suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage or informal garden. You should expect to see Gillenia grow to an approximate height of 50-100cm (20-40”) and a spread of 10-50cm (4-20”).
