Gaultheria are a genus within the Ericaceae family, native to Asia, South and North America and Australasia. They are commonly known as the ‘Checkberry plant’. The genus was named by Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus in honour of Jean-Francois Gauthier of Quebec.
Gaultheria are evergreen shrubs with simple, leathery leaves and delicate bell-shaped flowers often followed by fleshy fruits.
