Gaillardia

History and Origin:

Gaillardia is a genus within the sunflower family Asteraceae and are native to North and South America. It was named after M.Gaillard de Charentonneau who was an 18th-century French magistrate who was a patron of botany. It has the common name blanket flower which is possibly due to wild varieties having the ability to blanket the ground, or could be due to the way the flower resemble to bright patterned blankets made by Native Americans.

About:

Gaillardia can be annuals, biennials or perennials that have simple leaves and daisy-like yellow, red or orange flowers that bloom on long stems in summer and autumn. They are well-suited to planting in beds, borders and containers and are great for bees and butterflies.
