Freesia are a genus of flowering plants within the Iridaceae family, native to South Africa. They are first documented as a genus by C F Echlon (1795-1868) and named after German botanist and doctor Friedrich Freese (1794-1878).
Freesia are cormous, deciduous, perennial plants with arching stems and sprays of tubed, salver or trumpet-shaped blooms, often with an intense sweet scent during spring or summer.
