Euonymus are a genus of flowering plants within the Celastraceae family, native to East Asia. They are commonly referred to as the ‘Spindle Tree’. The genus name is derived from the Greek ‘eu’, meaning ‘good’ and ‘onama’, meaning ‘name’. It is said to mean luck. It was also thought that if these plants flowered early it was a likely sign of an outbreak of plague.
Euonymus are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees with dense, bushy foliage that hold delicate clusters of subtle flowers throughout the summer.
