Eucalyptus are a genus within the Eucalypteae family, native to Australia. They were first documented in 1770 when Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander arrived at Botany Bay with James Cook. The genus name is derived from the Greek word calyptos, meaning 'well' and 'covered', in reference to the operculum of the flower bud.
Eucalyptus are evergreen trees and shrubs. The stunning foliage is often used as part of flower arrangements due its gorgeous yet subtle colour. Larger varieties will showcase interesting bark, flowers and even fragrance.
