History and Origin:

Epimedium is a genus within the Berberidaceae family, native to China. They are commonly referred to as ‘bishop’s hat’ due the flower shape. The genus name was given by Swedish botanist, Carl Linnaeus during 1753.

Epimedium are rhizomatous perennials, native to Western and central China. They produce either evergreen or deciduous heart-shaped and lime green foliage alongside an abundance of blooms that provide a spectacular floral display during the spring. These versatile plants are fantastic along banks and slopes and within flower beds, borders and containers.
