Dipsacus

History and Origin:

Dipsacus is a genus of around 15 species from the Caprifoliaceae family and are more commonly known as Teasel. They are native to Asia, Africa and Europe. The name Dipsacus originates from the Greek word 'dipsa' meaning thirst for water which refers to the cup-like shape the leaves make where they join at the stem. The dried heads of the plant were once used in the textile industry.

About:

Dipsacus are herbaceous biennial or perennial plants with prickly stems and leaves with bristly flowers that are produces in summer. They are best suited to informal and wildflower style gardens and are happy planted in border and beds. The flowers are often cut and dried to be used in flower arrangements.
