Diervilla are a genus of plants within the Caprifoliaceae family, native to north America. They are commonly known as bush honeysuckle. The genus is named after French surgeon, Marin Diereville who first introduced the plant to Europe in the 1700’s.
Diervilla are deciduous shrubs with gorgeous veined foliage that will often adopt varying shades of green and red. Clusters of bright yellow flowers soon emerge during summer, displaying a beautiful contrast in colour. They are best grown in a woodland setting and their suckering habit can often stabilise banks and slopes. You can expect to see Diervilla grow to an approximate height and spread of 1 – 1.5 metres (3-5’).
