Deutzia

History and Origin:

Deutzia is a genus of approximately 60 species within the Hydrangeaceae family, native to central and eastern Asia. The first variety of Deutzia (Deutzia scabra) were spotted in Japanese gardens by German naturalist and explorer, Engelbert Kaempfer in 1712 and Carl Peter Thunberg, a Swedish naturalist in 1784. They were not seen in Europe until the 1830s.

About:

Deutzia are modest, yet attractive bushy deciduous shrubs that fashion clusters of usually fragrant, star-shaped pink or white flowers that sit upon waxy green foliage during the summer months. Flaky bark is an additional and unique feature of Deutzia, adding even more charm to this beautiful shrub. Deutzia are a perfect accompaniment to your flower beds and borders, requiring very little care.
