Cotoneaster

History and Origin:

Cotoneaster is a genus of approximately 200 species within the Rosaceae (Rose) family, native to milder areas of Eurasia. Several European species have been grown since the 16th century with an influx from eastern Asia during the 19th and 20th century which provided a wide available range. The genus name is derived from the Latin word ‘cotoneum’ meaning ‘quince’ and the suffix of Aster meaning to resemble.

About:

Cotoneaster are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or small trees that display stunning clusters of white or pink flowers in the spring and summer, followed by red, purple or black berries in the autumn.
