Clianthus

History and Origin:

Clianthus is a genus of just two species within the legume family Fabaceaea, native to New Zealand. They are more commonly known as Kakabeak or lobster claw, due to their distinctive beak, or claw, shaped flowers, the Kaka being a New Zealand parrot. Both species of Clianthus are considered to be endangered in the wild.

About:

Clianthus are evergreen shrubs that are mainly noted for their claw or beak shaped flowers that they produce in spring and summer, which are highly distinctive and unusual. They are well suited to coastal gardens or a sub-tropical style garden.
