Chitalpa is an intergeneric hybrid flowering tree in the family Bignoniaceae. It is a cross between the Catalpa and Chilopsis trees. Two variations of tree were named Chitalpa by A. Rusanov of the Botanic Garden of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences in 1964. All living plants of this intergeneric hybrid in North America are believed to have originated from this single introduction.
Chitalpa is an unusual hybrid resulting in a gorgeous deciduous shrub or small flowering tree that display slender lance-shaped foliage and a mass of pale pink orchid-like blooms during the summer. They are best suited to cottage or informal garden settings. Chitalpa can vary in size dependant on their variety.
