Chimonanthus

History and Origin:

Chimonanthus are a genus within the Calycanthaceae family, native to China. In Greek, the name means ‘winter flower’ which appropriately describes its flowering period.

About:

Chimonanthus are evergreen or deciduous shrubs with modest leaves and an abundance of intensely fragrant and yellow bowl-shaped flowers. These blooms are produced in the winter months, predominantly between November-March and are preceded by cylindrical seed like capsules. Chimonanthus are best suited to a low maintenance cottage or informal garden, grown against a wall or in a border where the foliage moulds itself into a domed feature.
