Bulbine

History and Origin:

Bulbine is a genus of plants in the subfamily Asphodeloideae from the family Asphodelaceae. They are mainly native to Africa, with some species in Australia and Yemen. They are named Bulbine due to the bulb-shaped tubers but their common name Jelly Burn Plant is due to the clear, jelly-like fluid that comes from the cut leaves that is said to sooth burns, rashes, blisters and insect bites and stings.

About:

Bulbine are clump-forming perennials or shrubs that are mostly evergreen with long, narrow succulent foliage. Star-shaped orange, white or yellow flowers bloom throughout the year. They make excellent groundcover and can be grown in containers.
