History and Origin:

Bletilla is a genus of terrestrial orchid within the Orchidaceae family, native to China and Japan alongside other Asiatic countries. This genus is one of the first orchids to be cultivated in Britain with references documented back to 1794.

Bletilla are an easy to grow deciduous, terrestrial orchid. They are hardy perennials, with tuber like pseudo bulbs, retaining moisture for drier seasons. They have ribbed foliage early in the year which is followed by spikes that grasp up to 14 bell-shaped open-mouthed blooms during spring and summer.
