History and Origin:

Blackcurrants are native to north Europe and north Asia where there are damp and fertile soils. They are typically grown for their fruits, both commercially and domestically, which are high in vitamin C. The berries can bea eaten raw but are usually cooked to make jams, jellies and syrups.

Blackcurrant is a woody shrub with flowers that bloom in spring or summer which are then followed by juicy berries. They are well suited to being planted in containers in a cottage or informal style garden.
