Blackberries are usually bramble shrubs with prickly stems that produce sweet black-coloured berries, similar in shape to raspberries. They come from the genus Rubus, of which raspberries, blackberries and dewberries are all part of and are native to Asia, Europe and North and South America.
Blackberry plants are shrubs that are often scrambling in nature and usually have prickly stems. White/light pink flowers bloom in spring/summer which are then followed by black, sweet tasting fruits. These fruits are high in vitamins and can be eaten raw but are also often used in desserts, jams and jellies.
