Astilbe

History and Origin:

Astilbe is a genus of 18 species in the Saxifragaceae family. They are native to Asia and North America in mountain ravines and woodland environments. Some species such as Astilbe rivularis are used in traditional medicine to treat ulcers, aches and inflammation among other ailments.

About:

Astilbe are fully hardy rhizomatous herbaceous perennials. They produce plumes of white, pink or purple flowers in spring/summer which are popular used in floristry. They are besy suited to woodland or bog gardens as they are happy with shade and most or water-logged soil.
