Artemisia

History and Origin:

Artemisia are a genus of plants within the Asteraceae family, known for the powerful chemical constituents for essential oils. They are commonly referred to as ‘Mugwort, Wormwood or Sagebrush. The genus name is derived from the Greek goddess Artemis.

About:

Artemisia are shrubs, perennials or annual plants that can be evergreen or deciduous. Their foliage is often highly attractive, a frosty grey in colour with divided leaves. Modest flowers will often follow during the summer. Artemisia are best suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage, gravel or informal garden setting. You should expect to see Artemisia grow to an approximate height of 10-50cm (4-20”) and a spread of 50-100cm (20-40”).
