Arctotis

History and Origin:

Arctotis is a genus within the Asteraceae family, native to southern Africa. It was named by famous botanist Carl Linnaeus using a combination of the word ‘arktos’ meaning bear and ‘otis’, meaning ear. It is not clear why it was named after these terms, but it could be connected to the shaggy hairs on the fruit.

About:

Arctotis are annuals or perennials that form in either an upright or spreading in habit. They are better known as an African Daisy as are Osteospermum, Dimorphotheca and Gerberas. They showcase simplistic yet beautiful foliage that boasts a shimmering underside and large, daisy-like blooms during summer and autumn.
