Adenophora are a genus which belongs to the Campanulaceae family, native to eastern Asia and more commonly referred to as ‘Ladybells’. The name originates from the new Latin term ‘aden’, meaning ‘gland’ and ‘phoros’, meaning ‘bearing’ which refers to oil-producing glands in the foliage.
Adenophora are deciduous perennial plants, that display funnel or bell-shaped flowers adorned on stately stems. These stunning blooms are sat atop attractive, clump forming foliage. Adenophora roots can be harvested and stripped of its outer layer to produce a medicinal herb. Adenophora are best suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage or informal garden.
