Actinidia

History and Origin:

Actinidia are a genus that is part of the Actinidiaceae family and are native to Asia where it has been cultivated since AD 770. Some varieties are popular for producing the kiwi fruit which has been in the UK since 1847, introduced by Robert Fortune.

About:

Actinidia are deciduous climbers that form simple yet stunning heart-shaped leaves with some varieties bearing beautifully coloured or variegated patterns. Modest flowers are usually followed with delectable and edible fruits. Actinidia are perfect when climbing through trees and against walls and structures. Although Actinidia are predominantly popular for their foliage and fruits, extraordinary perfumed scents are often released when the flowers bloom in late spring or early summer.
