Abutilon

History and Origin:

Abutilon are part of the Mallow family, Malvaceae, comprising of over 200 species. They are predominantly found in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia. The original genus name is derived from Arabic, translating to the new Latin word ‘Abutilon’ during the 18th century.

About:

Abutilon are evergreen or deciduous shrubs, trees, perennials or annuals with impressive foliage and long slender stems. Atop the foliage are voluptuous bell or bowl-shaped blooms with a prominent downward facing stamen. Abutilon are the perfect addition to flower beds, borders and containers.
